EEE Waste is a term used to cover almost all types of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) that has or could enter the waste stream. Although e-waste is a general term, it can be considered to cover TVs, computers, mobile phones, white goods (e.g. fridges, washing machines, dryers etc), home entertainment and stereo systems, toys, toasters, kettles - almost any household or business item with circuitry or electrical components with power or battery supply.
Why do we charge for e-waste?
This is one example on why there are charges to e-waste.
99% of appliances have plastic casings, these plastic casings have a fire retardant added to the plastic, these retardants are highly toxic if disposed of in the wrong manner e.g burnt. To dispose of this plastic in the correct manner you have to be licensed and accredited. Only a handful of companies have this accreditation, so, the plastic has to be shipped to the nearest accredited company which is in Auckland, they also have charges in disposing of the product.
Shipping charge and disposal charge=your charge.
